It’s a new age Christmas Carol, sort of, unrelenting in idiosyncratic ideas, and with no fear as to how to approach them. I recently got this movie on 4K Blu ray and I have a digital code to redeem that seems to be VUDU only.

Son Lux's score also enjoys excellent fidelity and acoustical detailing throughout while a robust low-end adds a palpable presence to every action sequence with a few surprisingly authoritative moments that dig as low as 20Hz ( bass chart). Genre fans in particular have sometimes struggled with multiracial (or multigender) casting, criticizing films that make even baby steps toward greater diversity. Representation matters, but so does our own ability to identify with anyone regardless of any superficial differences. The contrast range is good, though the black levels aren’t the deepest in the low-light shots, but that appears to be how they were photographed. For those not familiar with the details regarding Ultra HD Blu-ray you can refer to my article that includes some pertinent data on the subject.

Everything Everywhere All at Once tells the story of Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh), a flustered immigrant mother who is contacted from a parallel universe and told that only she can save the world. Those details are generally just a bit more refined than on the Blu-ray, but it’s often difficult to tell. Their daughter Joy (Stephanie Hsu) is struggling to find her own way in the world, and her relationship with her girlfriend is something that the rest of the family struggles to accept. Michelle Yeoh, Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan, James Hong, Tallie Medel, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr.

The Outtakes aren’t necessarily that amusing, but they do show how much fun that everyone was having on set, and just what kinds of things that the Daniels were doing off-camera to motivate the actors. Deleted Scenes with Commentary (HD; 13:51) offers "the Daniels" offering some background and context. The struggles that Evelyn faces are genuinely universal: everyone, everywhere, has struggled with the similar feelings of inadequacy and a lack of acceptance—maybe not all at once, but definitely at times. As Raymond slings a fanny pack around like nunchucks, everything stays forward-focused, surround use barely noted. Packaged and shipped well shows seller has concern for the products he sells to arrive in excellent condition. While that all sounds very deep, the film takes a simple path toward striking its chords, relying on a group of easily definable people, each with characteristics that associate them within the story’s framework. The film garnered eleven Academy Award nominations in 2023, and brought home seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Director, Editing, and Original Screenplay. Another I learned of recently is 4KULT, which is like a brand or something of an Italian studio that remasters StudioCanal productions, often in a higher quality (eg. out in various science fiction tinged offerings over the past years and/or decades, but still manages to feel remarkably fresh and even innovative.

It even had me pondering on some of the decisions I've made in life and how things might have worked out differently (not that I'm unhappy with how they did. However for a single film I'm not sure if the cost of postage will make it more expensive than the US version, I combined mine with other films as the postage was a flat rate. Bass reproduction is clean and accentuates the audio’s excellent dynamic range with palpable impact. Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan deliver one of the best surprises of the year with their bizarrely entertaining and ingeniously heartfelt Everything Everywhere All at Once, starring Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu and James Hong. Directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert come together for a main feature commentary, and continue chatting (optionally) over deleted scenes. At 139 minutes the narrative takes its time, building the foundational elements of its plot toward an end game which turns its focus inward, allowing us to see the unraveled potential in where things were headed right from the start. I've had to import these three, Touch of Evil and Hard Target, all KL releases because they won't sell them overseas themselves. The variety of reds and oranges in the final quarter of the movie, in particular, is impressive and perfectly reflects the tonal shift in the story. And somehow, amid all the visually stunning chaos, the filmmakers reveal a tender, moving portrait of modernity. Co-written/co-directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert Everything Everywhere All at Once this is a mind bending, intelligently crafted sci-fi action comedy that asks quite a bit of the audience but, if you’re open to it, it’s got something viable to offer.

The color balance also varies from multiverse to multiverse, sometimes drab, sometimes much more vivid. Eccentric and boundary-less in creativity, Michelle Yeoh carries this project as the story’s core center, although the multitude of centers means focus can waver. It demands your attention as the constant shifting of its cascading elements as well as an understanding of their fundamental rules keeps you slightly off balance but, prove highly entertaining. Stephanie Hsu was also nominated for Supporting Actress, losing to another actress from her own film. Impressively, Everything Everywhere All at Once wasn’t just the Little Engine That Could, it also became the Little Engine That Did.
