There’s a battery onboard for that true portable projector experience, which lasts 2.5 hours at low brightness – just don’t expect much more than half that at full brightness. Electrical power is made up of Energy per electron multiplied by number of electrons per second. These are expressed in Volts (Energy per unit) and Current / Amps (quantity). If portable convenience is your prime concern, then you might choose the Capsule II over the others. However, we’d need to see it significantly discounted before we could wholly recommend it. The Nebula Capsule Max bears a lot of similarities to its masterful sibling, the Nebula Capsule II . The Nebula Capsule Max uses Android 8.1 Oreo with a custom skin on top called “Nebula UI”. This UI makes it possible to use Android without a touchscreen as it is designed to be used with the remote. It works quite well as it’s intuitive and well laid out.

You can also adjust the focus or the keystone correction on the Max manually. But it’s nice when you don’t have to deal with it — and I think it’s a real strength for the Capsule Max and other Anker projectors that I’ve tested. Picture was tested from a distance of about a metre, giving about a 30 ins picture, to 3 metres giving about 100 ins picture, and in the dark room it looked fine at either size. The extra amount of reviewer approval compared to Capsule II roots from its advantages in Screen Mirroring (instead of depending on Chromecast), its more media-compatible operating system, its 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, its Octacore Processor, its screen mirroring feature instead of depending on Chromecast, its longer video playtime, and the like. Meanwhile, Capsule II has a more extensive USB compatibility feature (to include USB-C) and Android TV.

Although the Nebula Capsule Max offers a “speaker mode”, which allows one to use it as a speaker, it offers limited audio quality: bass is neither powerful nor very deep and there’s definitely a “boxy” ring to it. Voices have decent enough timbre and there’s good clarity even in action films. Using an external speaker, even a small and portable one such as the SoundCore Flare+ or the Creative iRoar Go, delivers much better results than using the embedded one. That’s absolutely understandable though, and the Capsule Max is indeed decent for watching films. A 100-inch screen projected out of a device that’s shaped like a beer can? It’s hard not to fall in love. Though in an ideal world battery life, projected brightness and resolution would be stronger, they’re minor quibbles against what’s achieved here. For a truly portable, and effortlessly useable portable projector, it’s hard to recommend anything other than the Anker Nebula Capsule II. The Capsule requires 15V 3A. You absolutely need 15V. 0.8A may be enough to slow down it’s discharge / recharge slowly. The Capsule II remote is all plastic including the buttons for power, HDMI, the home button and volume. The batteries on this one are two triple As. There is a button that triggers Google Assistant. The software: Android vs Android TVThe improved speakers are also excellent, although I would not mind an even greater increase in volume output. Overall, the speakers have excellent clarity and sound quality, however. To a degree all portable projectors are small but the Nebula Capsule Max is tiny, standing just 15cm tall, with an 80mm diameter, the projector is smaller than most Bluetooth speakers. And, weighing just 737g, it’s also lighter than a lot of Bluetooth speakers, too. The Max has an 8W Bluetooth speaker. The Bluetooth speaker works like any other standalone speaker. Streaming music services such as Spotify and Tidal work well. The 8W speaker on the Capsule Max and Capsule II is larger than what you’ll find even in some home theater projectors. So what are the differences between these two products? For the most part, as Anker-manufactured projectors, they share features and specs such as the fact that they’re both DLP projectors with the same brightness (200 ANSI lumens) and resolution (1280 x 720 at 16:9 aspect ratio). They even feature the same 1 x 8W (270°) speaker and 1-second autofocus. In those terms, they’re practically the same unit. Volts is similar to height of a waterfall making water fall down faster, current is similar to width of a waterfall.
