After that they spent four years in Jerusalem to reconstruct the birth of the State of Israel for the book O Jerusalem!. Lapierre is proud that after spending a great deal of time in Jerusalem he knows each alley, square, street, and building in the Holy City intimately.

The massacre of 680,000 members of that race that God had destined to govern and subdue in the trenches of World War I wrote an end to the legend of a certain India. A whole generation of young men who might have patrolled the Frontier, administered the lonely districts or galloped their polo ponies down the long maidans was left behind in Flanders fields. Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil (also spelt Swathandriam Ardharathriyil) ( transl. Freedom at Midnight) is a 2018 Indian Malayalam-language prison action thriller film directed by Tinu Pappachan from a script written by Dileep Kurian and produced by B. C. Joshi, Lijo Jose Pellissery and Chemban Vinod Jose. The film stars Antony Varghese, Vinayakan, Chemban Vinod Jose, Tito Wilson and Arya Salim. The "rich indulgence of Indian kings" has been quoted in great detail, while the atrocities on Indian wealth and citizens by the British have been ignored. It is also a cautionary tale for the present, by showing so clearly how false distinctions between people, riven by such things as religion, wealth, and power, can so readily cause diverse communities living in harmony for centuries to shatter the peacefulness of their coexistence and turn on each other in abhorrent communal violence at a moment's notice, leaving us stunned and questioning our humanity. Perhaps this understanding can encourage us not to repeat this insanity. M., Athira (29 March 2018). "Freedom at midnight". The Hindu. Archived from the original on 9 November 2020 . Frankly, never has a single book amazed and intrigued me so much, while being so educative and informative. Very rarely comes a defining moment that changes history to the extent of being un-recognizable and very rarely comes a book that changes your life, perceptions and everything that you presumed to be true once and for all. Independence of India was the defining moment in modern India and this book by the author duo Dominique Lappierre and Larry Collins on the before and after-math of the same is the defining book in my life. a b Gordon, Leonard A. But, it makes a travesty of history. Above all, it renders one of the bloodiest mismanagements in the history of mankind in such sepia-tinted prose that things look really romantic, or atmost tragic. Few of the people in the hall could talk to each other in their native language; their only common tongue was the English of the colonizers, whose rule was about to end. Their nation would harbor fifteen official languages and 845 dialects. The Urdu of the deputies of the Punjab was read from right to left; the Hindi of their neighbors in the United Provinces from left to right. The Tamil of the Madrasis was often read up and down, and other tongues were decoded like the symbols on a Pharaonic frieze. Even their gestures were dissimilar. When a darkskinned Madrasi from the South nodded his head, he meant “yes.” When a pale northerner made the same movement, he meant “no.Inspiration ....Mountbatten never wanted to be the last viceroy of India.... He has been shown to be a cool costumer.... The lead actor of this drama so to speak..... The whole view point is through his eyes.... It is thus understood that no gossip regarding the missus will be discussed!!....... The obvious racial undertone gets a new height when the authors bring forth idiotic and almost dead Aryan invasion theory to explain why Punjabis are a "marshal" race, as opposed to the "small and dark Bengalis" who are "mere Asiatics." I am sure that it has nothing to do with that Bengal is where most of the protest movements started from. Because anything good that comes out of India, well it has to be influenced by the higher race, even in ancient times. It is incredibly callous in its complete disregard of misfortune that fell upon Hindus of Eastern Bengal. The Muslims who wanted a separate Muslim state went to newly formed Pakistan and the people who wanted a separate Muslim state went to the newly formed Pakistan and the people who wanted to be in a secular state remained in India or came to India, as simple as that.

Sidhardhan, Sanjith (31 March 2018). "Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil Mini Review". The Times of India. Archived from the original on 8 October 2018 . Retrieved 25 March 2019. Freedom at Midnight is an album by American pianist David Benoit released in 1987, recorded for the GRP label. The album reached #5 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz chart. What this well-written trash tries to hide beneath its eloquence is very simple. It was the British who had created an exactly similar mess in Palestine. They had done so with the simple objective of ensuring that the place they leave remain perpetually cancerous. Exactly same model had been followed for sub-continent. The authors have done deep research to not only comb the archives and official documents but also to talk to people, right from highest level of politicians (I was most surprised to know of their interview with Indira Gandhi, who was Indian PM at that time) to locating ADCs, common people and conspirators of Gandhi's assasination.
