Description

Our ERFURTmav Professional linings are the brand of choice for many professional decorators throughout the UK. Carefully selected long fibre, pure paper pulp is used to produce paper with excellent tensile strength and easy cutting characteristics, even when soaked.

Lining paper is a great way to turn plasterboard into a paint- or wallpaper-ready surface. You’ll need to fill the joints and screw holes before doing so. Make sure they’re nicely sanded down and seal the plasterboard with a primer or PVA solution. WHAT IS THE BEST LINING PAPER FOR PAINTING? Butt the next length of paper against the first. Run a seam roller lightly along the joins. Continue this process along the ceiling, scoring and cutting the excess at the ends as you go. Step 10 In principle hanging lining paper is similar to hanging wallpaper with a few subtle differences, which we will tell you here. Now you know what lining paper is used for, it's time to decide which type is best for you. You can choose between standard lining paper or paste the wall lining paper, depending on your personal preference. When papering around a pendant light, turn off the power at the mains or isolate the circuit you are working on (switching off at the wall is not enough).

It’s worth noting that pasting the wall is only an option with paste-the-wall lining paper and not conventional lining paper. Many have tried applying adhesive to the wall before applying conventional lining paper, and it’s fair to say the results are disastrous. WHICH IS BEST FOR ME? Before you start hanging lining paper you will need to prep the area you are working in. We are assuming that you have already prepped the walls. If not, see our section below on 'what's the best way to prepare a wall for lining paper?'. If possible empty the room you will be working in so you have full access to the walls and room for your pasting table. Alternatively, move your furniture to one side and cover the furniture and floor with dust sheets.

This post will explain what grade lining paper you should choose for your project. From barely-there to heavy-duty, we’ll guide you through the difference between the grades so that you can cover your wall with confidence. Why should you use lining paper? Conventional lining paper has been used by decorators for years, in many cases with great results. That said, the clear advantages of paste-the-wall lining paper can’t be denied. Erfurt Smooth 1400 grade Lining paper from B&Q is a well-known brand and a good choice for covering walls. 3. 1700-2000 grade lining paper Subtract the total from Step 4 from the total in Step 2 to get the total length of lining paper needed for the room (T), excluding the windows and doors. Get a spirit level and mark a horizontal line across the wall from corner to corner. Measure how far it is from corner to corner. Now get your lining paper and cut — add an extra 100-200mm to overlap and cut into the corner. Now cut enough full length strips to cover the wall. You should need around five strips.

PS. Easyfil is great stuff, not it is not. It is a jointing compound (so are most fillers if not all fillers by the way) but it is meant to be used wet on wet. Thanks to Wine~o for helping me grasp why I had problems with it. That means, if you do a second coat of easyfil the first coat absorbs all the moisture from the next coat with the end result being the subsequent coat fails when it is painted (lifts off). This happens because it is very porous (too much gypsum I guess and little else). So to top this up, it needs at least 1 very good mist coat. There are better materials out there (anything by Toupret for example) but they appear to cost more. Marking a straight horizontal line on the wall, so you can hang the lining paper straight, overlapping and trimming off any excess. If you hang lining paper flush against the ceiling you can be left with gaps as walls are rarely perfectly straight. Feeling a bit chilly? Lining paper provides additional layers of insulation that'll keep you toasty come the blustery winter months. It traps air between the paper and the wall, containing draughts to keep your home warmer for longer. Perhaps most importantly, you'll also save money on your next energy bill. What are the different types of lining paper? These grades are the best choice for you if you’re redecorating a property that’s generally in good condition, and you simply want a perfectly smooth surface that will make applying your wallpaper even easier. 1200 – 1400 First and foremost, paste-the-wall is a superior alternative to conventional lining paper. Rather than pasting the paper and waiting for it to expand before applying to the walls, you simply paste the wall and apply the paste-the-wall lining paper directly. As well as being tougher and more resistant, the added textile fibres mean it won’t leave bubbles or lift away at the seams.

1400 Grade Professional Lining Paper

Failure to carry out this step, or do it for the right amount of time, will result in bubbles, lifting of the paper at the seams and a bad finish. PASTE-THE-WALL LINING PAPER PS. Rereading your post, forget the skim coats, fill the deeper stuff and as much more as you like and move on. It is a 110 year old flat ... either go for venetian plastering or wallpaper it
