About this deal

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt is a classic children’s storybook written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Helen Oxenbury. Published in 1989, the book follows a family of four as they go on a bear hunt through various terrains, including swishy grass, squelchy mud, and oozy goo. Along the way, they encounter many obstacles, but ultimately find their way to the bear’s den. The Osmo-Little Genius Starter Kit is an early math learning game that helps children learn counting, shapes, phonics, and creativity. It includes an Osmo iPad base and six educational learning games.

If you ask any parent what their toddler’s favourite song is, chances are they’ll say “The Wheels on the Bus”. This catchy little tune is one of the most popular children’s songs around, and it’s easy to see why. I remember this as a campfire skit. Captured oral traditions always disappoint me, as they never exactly match the story and wording you learnt - and so it is with We're Going on a Bear Hunt. Also the written word doesn't indicate the sing-song rhythm of the original, and doesn't provide an indication of all the relevant movements. These elements were always critical to the success of the skit, and may be lost in this book form. A family of five (with a dog) embarks on a bear hunt, (without weapons). At first you can see this is just a family outing, it's all in fun, it's about spending a day in nature pretending they are going on a bear hunt, and Dad is all smiles, but as we proceed from the sea though the meadow, across a river and into the dark woods, Dad is more serious, that's a kind of subtle key. the illustrations, easily tell the story, without the need of words, which is brilliant and means that this book adapts to the different learning capabilities of different children. The illustrator brought the story to life by creating illustrations that helped to tell the story. The illustrations were able to help the reader to understand what was happening in the story and to feel as if they were part of the story. What challenges did the production team face in making the DVD? The book has been praised for its simple and catchy rhyming text, as well as its charming illustrations. It has become a classic children’s book, and continues to be enjoyed by children and adults alike. Common Questions on We’re Going on a Bear Hunt• Where are we going? begin with clapping hands, slap knees, --as many actions as needed to create energy and get everyone together— end today with “fasten our seatbelts” & “start the engine” & “say, “Are we there yet?”. There are a few creative influences behind the DVD. The first is the director, who is responsible for the overall look and feel of the film. The second is the cinematographer, who is responsible for the visual style of the film. The third is the editor, who is responsible for the pacing and structure of the film. How did the DVD impact viewers? The narrowness of his course of study proved a source of dissatisfaction and Michael began looking outside his recommended reading to contemporary working, class ballads. He retains a passion for street rhymes, popular songs and folk stories.

When you get to the end where it says “one shiny wet nose” touch your nose without saying “nose” and wait ‘til the group says “nose”. Do the same for the ears and eyes.

Then there's the artwork. The artwork is impressionistic, evocative of my youth, particularly the memories I have of using the excrement in my diapers to paint on my bedroom walls. Much like the drawings in this book, I couldn't distinguish between the characters in my own imagery either. Only two things could be said of it with absolution. It stunk, and you can't bleach the images away once they've been burned into your memory. Helen Oxenbury was born in Ipswich and attended the Ipswich School of Art before moving to London to study at the Central School of Art and Design. Her career has spanned many fields, including design work in theatre, film and television. She started illustrating children’s books in 1964 and has published books across age groups, from classic board books for babies to collections of nursery rhymes for all ages. I read this book to my Reception class the day before we went on a school trip to the 'Build a Bear Factory'. It linked in with work they had done that week about bears and was a perfect introduction to the idea of 'going on a journey'. The school trip was to be their first as a class and reading this book to them was a good starter activity before we discussed the next day's school trip and what the children would be doing. Michael attended Middlesex Hospital Medical School for a year but transferred to Wadham College, Oxford to study English Literature.
