AirPrint functionality requires a compatible iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch device running iOS 7.0 or later, and an AirPrint-enabled printer connected to the same network as your iOS device. A printer connected to the USB port of your Mac, PC, AirPort Base station, or Time Capsule is not supported. Wireless printing requires a working network with wireless 802.11b/g/n/ac or ad capability, operating at 2.4GHz. Wireless performance may vary based on terrain and distance between the printer and wireless network clients. I have to admit that I was expecting the larger, more expensive Maxify GX7050 to outpace or, at the very least, equal the performance of the Maxify GX5050. It was a surprise to me, then, that its performance fell some way behind, sometimes by a considerable margin. Requires a smart device with the Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY app installed and connected to the desired active wireless network to complete cableless setup.

ADF scan speeds are the average of scESAT30secA in "ADF Productivitiy Measurement" test, ISO/IEC 17991:2015. When scanning or copying a certain volume of documents (approx. 150 sheets in default settings) continuously from the ADF, the printer may switch to "waiting mode" in which paper feeding stops for several tens of seconds after each scan to prohibit overheating the ADF. The C/M/Y pigment inks are not as vivid as Canon’s dye-based inks but they’re bright enough to create satisfyingly colorful images and documents. And while they’re not so good at bonding with coated photo paper, as water-based inks, this business printer is not too bad at photos. What you find is that the finish on glossy photo paper is just a little flatter than Canon’s photo printers. A4 document print speed on plain paper is measured based on average of ESAT in Office Category Test of ISO/IEC 24734 standard. The Easy-PhotoPrint Editor software requires an Internet connection and is compatible with the following operating systems; Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit/32-bit), Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit/32-bit), Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 (64-bit/32-bit), macOS High Sierra v10.13, macOS Sierra v10.12, Mac OS X El Capitan v10.11 and Mac OS X El Capitan v10.10.5. Minimum Windows and macOS/Mac OS X requirements are: 2GB of RAM and a monitor with 1024x768 resolution. The Easy-PhotoPrint Editor mobile application requires an Internet connection and the Easy-PhotoPrint Editor app v1.1.0, available for free on the App Store and at Google Play. Compatible with iPad Air2 (2nd Generation), iPad Mini 4 and iPhone 6s or later devices running iOS 10 or later, and Android mobile devices running Android 5.x or later. Certain exceptions may apply. The following file formats are supported: JPEG, PNG, HEIF (devices running iOS 11 and mac OS v10.13 or later), DLP save data, Poster Artist export data, EasyPhoto+ export data, Easy-PhotoPrint Editor export data. In running the rule over the best ink tank printers, we've whittled our choice down to the ten printers we feel excel in critical areas. Considering the Maxify GX7050 is the priciest model in Canon’s Maxify GX range, I remain a little surprised that it fell behind the Maxify GX5050 in our speed tests. This wasn’t a one-off in a single test, but a consistently slower rate of printing. I would have expected it to be the same or faster than the cheaper model. It was a similar story with printing business graphics. There isn’t a lot in this, but again, under magnification, I found the GX7050’s text looked a little sharper than its rivals. I preferred the colour graphics printing on the Brother MFC-J6955DW, though, and if you have a lot of colourful charts to print, that might be worth considering.

Canon Print Service is a print plug-in for Android smart devices, which enables printing from Android v4.4 - v5.0 devices to many Canon printers via a Wi-Fi network. The plug-in does not work as a standalone app. Available for free at Google Play. Text quality on the Canon’s standard settings is good. It’s almost indistinguishable from the Maxify GX5050, but looked better than the text output from both the Epson EcoTank ET-2850 and the Brother MFC-J6955DW. The latter two aren’t terrible at this, but the Canon products produce sharper looking text that’s clearly noticeable under magnification. The same doesn’t apply to the print quality, though, which is identical to the GX5050, by virtue of using exactly the same kind of ink. It’s great at printing letters, reasonable at business graphics, but not to be relied on for photos. If you want affordable running costs, though, it’s second to none.
