Description

The natural finish provided with the application of Danish Oil provides water resistance to all woods (including bare wood), helping to reduce staining and make the wood easier to clean and maintain. Before applying Danish oil to oak, it's essential to eliminate existing treatments and spray-on polishes. The photograph below was taken at a low angle to show the low sheen finish after application and finishing with Danish Oil.

Although it is always advisable to sand along the grain, you can go across the grain for a couple of strokes to dig into the wood and remove a scratch or an imperfection. In this blog, we will discuss the benefits of applying Danish Oil to oak, what it looks like when it is applied, and other uses. I've read that Danish Oil will continue to seep out of the pores of red oak, sometimes for days after it's applied.Top quality Danish Oil is made to be absorbed into wood, protecting, nourishing and ‘feeding’ the wood from the inside. Care should be taken with some other Danish Oils before doing this, because they often contain synthetic varnish and resins which will block the pores of the wood and plasticise it, removing its natural ability to ‘breathe’ with its surroundings. Danish oil is a blend of oils, including tung oil and linseed oil, along with a mixture of mineral spirits and resins. Alternatively, with oak I've just kept wiping it down every few hours and first thing in the morning (for the first 24 hours). and apply to all four sides, then start wiping off with paper towels, after I have most wiped off I get another towel and wipe them down really well, rubbing the finish in.

If this doesn't work then wiping on a fresh coat of finish and buffing it off should do the trick (tip: don't just wipe away the excess, wipe hard, buffing the surface well for a good 5-10 minutes). Danish oil enhances the natural beauty of wood and veneered surfaces and doesn’t yellow or change the colour of the wood, although it will make the surface look slightly darker. We’re incredibly proud of the worldwide range of respected users who believe in and rely upon our furniture restoration services including Harrods, Rolls Royce, Four Seasons Hotels, the NHS, and the Royal Air Force. It's essential to consider factors like durability, appearance, and application when picking the best oil for your project. The upcycling and restoration of all things leather, fabric and wood keeps Furniture Clinic at the heart of the circular economy.

I assume as it's got a slight sheen the surface must be massively smoother than my crappy xmas trees so maybe I'll have better success with the wax this time. For maintenance of new or used items, simply re-oiling once a year is sufficient for year-round protection. I have used oil based poly on red oak stained with Danish oil that has sat for only 2-3 days and it turned out quite nice. This finish should also be applied at room temperature and in a well ventilated area -it will smell. Yes, you can use Danish oil to protect things like your outdoor furniture, but the finish will wear away quickly, and it won’t offer long-term protection.

If you want your wood to stay as close to the freshly sanded colour as poss a standard water-bourne finish is the thing to use, but these do the least to enhance figure and chatoyance (cat's eye effect) as seen in spades in Bob's boxes above. It’s suitable to apply on all types of wood and can be used on wooden furniture, tables and worktops. Introduction With so many different floor finishes on the market at the moment, we thought it was about time that we sorted out which are best.Bestwood Danish Oil can be used on previously oiled or stained surfaces and can be overcoated when dry with any good quality water based or white spirit based woodstain. Secondly they said "Once you have sealed any wood with an oil there is nothing you can place over the top.
