Description

A murder mystery, a psychological study—these elements are set against an almost comedic exploration of the police detectives assigned to the case to form a multilayered drama.

The descriptions of the lengths some people will go to to deceive we’re chilling and again so well written Knives, added an extra for Ms. Vivica A Fox and Cindy Busby stepping outside of her Hallmark comfort zone.) Kaylene's best friend Samantha seems to be onto psycho nurse, but what does she do? She loudly announces her peanut allergy for psycho nurse to hear, and thus plan her murder. The Characters, from unassuming to loud and voracious, Rachel being my favourite, I cant say why but she was an outstanding person to have in your minds eye when reading a storySally has to do SOMETHING, so what she does is... write a rambling anonymous letter - really emotional and overfilled with irrelevant detail while withholding anything actually useful, just to maximize the chances that the police will dismiss her as a crank - and leave it in the police inbox where it will lie unattended for several days. THEN she goes barging into the home of the grieving widower, asks him intrusive questions, rummages through his things, and steals photos of said wife and daughter. Pretty insensitive and hurtful, right? But surely she has a higher purpose. She's going right to the police with what she's found, right? Because two people have DIED here, the killer is at large, and the grieving widower is in danger of being accused of their murders.

I usually really enjoy Sophie Hannah's books and I would still recommend them to any new readers. Having said that, this particular instalment is the weakest I've read so far. Sixty four year returned teacher old Rachel lives in Helston village in rural Norfolk. She is lonely and has been since her mother died many years before. Which is why she's always taken in lodgers. But for some reason, none of them seem to work out. After her last lodger left under a cloud, Rachel advertises her spare double bedroom for rent once again. And Faye answers the ad under the name Fiona and Rachel assures her that having a newborn baby won't be a problem. Well, it isn't for Rachel but it soon turns out that it is for Faye. While on duty in the Larsons' home, Vanessa keeps Kaylene in a groggy state with over-medication. She also kills Kaylene's best friend Samantha, who is the first to get wise to Vanessa's game. The slowest to realize the deception is the pilot husband Drew, who is well-intentioned, but an easy victim of being duped by the warped mind of Vanessa. But for fans of these made for TV movies "The Wrong Mother" is still watch-able as many of the others are with a nice cast delivering their characters in, well thankfully not an awkward manner which certainly helps. And much of what makes "The Wrong Mother" watch-able is that Brooke Nevin does a nice job of bringing out Vanessa's spiteful side with that mix of those classic evil stares and her character's controlling nature. The setting of a lot of the book in Helston in Norfolk, and how the village was preparing for its annual Bonfire Night celebrations that were known County wide

Mykel Shannon Jenkins gives a first rate portrayal of Detective Dawkins, the hard nosed cop, who can smell something is not right. I find it baffling that females in TV movies look like feminine and attractive, while "females" in mainstream movies look like men. It's crazy. You look at these TV-Movie actresses, then look at mainstream actresses, and you gotta ask what the hell is going on?

THE WRONG MOTHER is a really captivating mystery that follows Faye, a 39 year old woman who is desperate to have a child, so desperate that she joins a co-parenting app to find someone to have a baby with. She does find who seems like the perfect person to have a baby with, but as you can imagine it’s not a simple happily ever after. This story is told in two different timelines, a year earlier when Faye joins the app and then in the present when Faye is on the run with baby Jake, lodging with a mysterious woman called Rachel who has her own secrets… Whenever I finally thought I had it all figured out, the author threw another twist into the plot, until finally, as the intrigue seems to be falling into place, it knots itself up again. Lily finally goes to Maddie’s house for about 5 mins and then finds photos of her family and a therapist card on a desk. Lily goes to the office of the therapist, who lets her come in and talk without an appointment. The therapist is trying to diagnose Lily with anxiety? Lily keeps trying to clarify that she doesn’t need therapy, she is trying to see if a patient is dangerous. When the therapist hears Maddie’s name, she is like… oh her? She is VERY dangerous. (The therapist should know, she gets murdered in the next scene.)

It's just her *reasons* for doing it that I don't like, and her reasons are consistent with every choice she's made from the beginning: she wants to save face and keep up appearances in her marriage. I say this knowing how uncharitable it must seem, especially when she's traumatized and, as I mentioned, had a recent head injury. But on her way out of the house, she steals evidence, and you would think she'd be doing that to preserve it, right? Wrong. On her way home, she *disposes* of the evidence and the police only learn of its existence because she keeps part of it for herself and drops it on the stairs when she comes in. Because she doesn't want anyone to find out what happened to her. Then there are the kids. I'm sorry, but if you're a close and loving family then the kids will want to see their mother at the earliest opportunity. However, Toby and Zoey, are only all too happy to not bother her. If it had been me, I would have been sneaking in to see her. You don't even see them at the hospital with her. If the writer and director had added a couple of extra scenes with the kids it would have made the story a little more believable and relatable. The film was a by-the-numbers psycho-on-the-loose film and excessively unpleasant. In the course of the film, we learn a great deal about in vitro pregnancy and related issues such as "cankles," the swelling that occurs in the feet, ankles, and hands in the final trimester.
