I reread this to annotate it before Defy Me came out and still loved it. It was difficult to annotate because there's a new POV and new characters who i love a lot, so i definitely had a field day putting hearts in the margins. Also I love juliette ferrars so much. SO MUCH. The setting's harsh conditions and political climate play a significant role in shaping the characters. It influences their motivations, beliefs, and actions. The characters' interactions with the setting lead to personal growth, as they navigate a world that is unforgiving and fraught with danger. This dynamic contributes to their depth and complexity. Critique Well. Yeah, I say, and frown. I guess. But why would The Reestablishment need a distraction? When have they ever been secretive about what they want? If a supreme commander wanted to take Juliette or Warner, for example, wouldn’t they just show up with a shit ton of soldiers and take what they wanted? the trans character is essentially outed while her twin brother is introducing her to Juliette, who hasn’t met her before Stronger, braver, and more resilient than ever, Juliette must fight for life and love. But first she has to survive the war being raged against her mind.

Castle laughs, out loud, and we all spin around to stare at him. I’m relieved to finally see him react, but he still seems lost in his head somewhere. He looks angry. I’ve never really seen Castle get angry. Defy Meintricately explores the theme of personal identity and the perpetual process of uncovering one's true self. The narrative underscores how external influences can obscure one's sense of self and how vital it is to unearth one's genuine identity. This theme prompts readers to reflect on the multifaceted nature of one's being and how the past molds the present. Emmaline causes Ella’s manacles to open, and fall off. Evie walks in. Ella kills her. Emmaline says “thank you.”Juliette attended that symposium because Nazeera encouraged her to go. Nazeera convinced Juliette it was the right thing to do. And then five seconds before Brendan gets shot, Nazeera tells me to run? Tells me we have the same powers? Juliette is devastated, and the darkness that’s always dwelled within her threatens to consume her. An explosive encounter with unexpected visitors might be enough to push her over the edge. Warner's primary motivation revolves around protecting Juliette and dismantling the oppressive Reestablishment. His character is driven by a desire for justice and a longing for a world where they can be together without fear.

Juliette’s real name is Ella. Ella Sommers. It’s a fact that our cast of characters need some time getting used to. You know, in between trying to not die. A first kiss. By now a few days have passed ever since I finished reading this book, yet my first reaction to “Restore Me” still remains the same. The book thoughtfully navigates the themes of betrayal and trust. Characters find themselves in situations where they must scrutinize the intentions and allegiances of those around them. The story underscores the frailty of trust and the consequences of betrayal, fostering contemplation on the significance of trust in both personal and political relationships. Defy Me is a pivotal installment in the "Shatter Me" series, marked by personal and political revelations. The characters face betrayals, test their loyalties, and navigate a world on the brink of war. The story's arc is one of self-discovery, love, and rebellion, and it sets the stage for the series' future developments and the ultimate resolution of the conflict between the characters and the Reestablishment. Defy Me Book Summary: Themes and Messages: The shudders ripple with renewed fervor across the floorboards, ripping through walls and seats and people. But hey, it was painful to read sometimes, way too painful Tahereh don't you dare rob me of my Warnette (and Kenji) happy ending! Before Delalieu can say anything further, he is shot. He falls to the floor, and Anderson appears. (We all thought he was dead, BTW.) We make our way, as a group, to the fifteenth floor, to our home on base in Sector 45. Warner only just finished having this thing built for us. He cleared out the entire top floor for our new headquarters—we’d hardly even settled in—and things have already gone to shit. I can’t even allow myself to think about it now, not yet. Juliette is with her parents. They torture her. Her mother tells her that the original plan was a mistake. Evie says that now, it’s about her. Kenji can’t belive what just happened. He passes out.
