This may be a little more labor-intensive than the first method, but it offers a much more durable, high-quality finish to last for years. This method involves applying a priming shellac spray over the silicone caulk before you go in with your paint brush. There are some instances where a different primer might give you decent results but there are very few instances where oil primer won’t work. It’s great for wood, laminate, previously painted surfaces, and all the things.

Delivery can range from 3-6 days for most parts of Australia. For goods that are classified “Dangerous Goods” such as paints, thinners and anything flammable, these good can only be taken by a road carrier and can take up to 10 business days in remote locations. Metro locations can take up to 7 business days and if you’re in Sydney it should not take more than 3 business days. You’ll need a putty knife or a silicone caulk remover to remove the old caulk layer. Adding more denatured alcohol to the non paintable silicone caulk can also help break the bonds.

Step two couldn’t be easier. Once the oil primer spray has been applied to the caulking you want to paint, it’s time to let it dry and cure. I had this inexpensive sprayer for years, and I just upgraded to this one, which is great because it doesn’t require that the paint is thinned and it is cordless!. This sprayer is very similar to mine but has a cord, which makes it a great mid-range option.

Good examples of this are heavy damp stains and notoriously hideous nicotine stains which can easily be covered up when using Zinsser BIN. There is a lot of confusing information out there about different primers and paint, using a paint sprayer versus brush painting, and whether or not your paint finish will be durable. Kitchen cabinet painting is no joke, it is going to take you some serious time and effort to paint an entire kitchen. I guarantee you mid-way though you are going to wish that you had never started in the first place. Considering how much work it is to paint a kitchen, you want to make sure that you use the right products so you never have to do it again!! The best way to paint silicone caulk is to first apply a shellac spray primer, let it fully dry, then apply one or two coats of paint over it.Oil-based primers and paints have been an industry standard for decades. These primers work with both oil paints and latex paints, making them very versatile and applicable to a wide variety of surfaces. Wood (painted or unpainted), steel and other metals, and surfaces with existing paint, such as interior and exterior walls are ideal surfaces for oil-based primers. Overall, Zinsser BIN is probably the best shellac based primer out there so it’s no surprise that painters always have some readily available in their vans. Coo-Var Shellac Primer All Review When painting over primer, you can choose any type of paint you want, from latex paint to oil to acrylic paint. The benefit of using an enamel versus a lacquer is that you can keep a little on hand for touch-ups. There will be some dings and dents that happen no matter what type of paint you use, and you can not easily touch up lacquered cabinets. Lacquer does not have a long enough shelf life to keep on hand (it will dry up in a month or so) and also will be pretty noticeable on its shiny perfect surface. Enamel, on the other hand, can be kept on hand to touch up any dings.
