It wasn't until a few years later when I knew so much more about espresso in general and had so much more experience with the Smart Grinder Pro, that I figured out what the issue was. The burrs are now slightly closer together so you take the entire grind range finer, but be careful if you do this, if the shim is too big you'll just push the burrs together, which you don't want.

I'd previously made the assumption (as this has happened to me many times with integrated grinder machines) that it was an issue to do with the humidity in the hopper changing in integrated grinder machines like the Barista Express or the Oracle when the machine is turned on, but I found that the changes in humidity in my studio, which is a fairly normal environment, changed by as much as about 12% during a period of about an hour, both outside the hopper, and inside the hopper. The Smart Grinder Pro from Sage offers over 60 different grind settings, so whatever your preference, the Smart Grinder Pro has you covered. I’ve now changed the internal setting on my burrs down to 4 – using your “zero point motor noise” approach it seems that the zero point is at 1. Sage have designed a grinder that satisfies the needs of various types of coffee drinkers due to the easy way in which you can adjust the grind size of beans. The other far more annoying is that the timer runs down to zero and continues from the top again and the buttons don’t work. The collar allows you to manually adjust the size by turning anti clockwise and lowering the blades closer to one another, making the grind finer and vice versa. If you're doing this, you may as well leave them in the bag and just leave the bag open, as the hopper (any hopper, not just the hopper on the Sage grinders) doesn't protect against the environment. It’s a great match for coffee lovers at any stage of their coffee journey, the simplicity of just the two dials helps beginners appreciate what they are actually doing to the coffee beans and the grind adjustment below the hopper will make ex-baristas feel at home. It also offers precision digital timing and an LCD display to help you get the most out of every grind.

We take a look at the two Sage Grinders that are being produced at the moment and help you select which one is right for you. The boiler, for the espresso shot, is PID temperature controlled, while a separate steam boiler offers instant and powerful steam on demand. The Haus self has been discontinued by the manufacturer, and I’ve not heard of it until now, I can’t find any reviews for it, so it would seem a bit of an unknown entity.Hi Kev, I’m a relative newbie when it comes to espresso – but I took the dive last year, getting myself a Smart Grinder Pro and a Lelit Anna. Older supermarket beans, in my humble opinion, lose lots of their flavour by being roasted to a crisp (as these kinds of beans are usually roasted particularly dark) and any delicate flavour notes remaining are likely to be given up to the oxidation process over the period of time that passes before they're used.

If you are looking at purchasing your first coffee grinder or you have started to take coffee a little more seriously and you’re in the market for an upgrade then read on. Their range of smart appliances, which includes kettles, toasters, and blenders, through to their ice cream maker and microwaves, has been exactingly considered to give you perfect results every time, all at the push of a button.Just getting my first entry Sage espresso machine and will be getting this grinder, after reading this. It does depend on how fine or coarse you're grinding, the finer you grind the longer it'll take, but you'll usually find for espresso that it grinds at around 1. Some other entry-level grinders (and some not so entry level grinders) are known for stripping gears for example when they try to grind beans that are too hard for that grinder. Smart Grinder Pro features high precision burr calibration for more consistent grinding and will even let you set Dose in 0.
